LTI Holdings Inc. filed a complaint June 2 in the northern Indiana U.S. District Court in South Bend alleging Lippert Components Inc. is making and selling three types of seals that LTI Holdings patented in 2005 and 2009.

As reported by the Elkhart Truth, the seals are used in the manufacture of slideout rooms in recreational vehicles. Seals are placed between the slideout rooms and the openings in the sidewalls of RVs to prevent water, debris and excessive air drafts from entering the vehicles.

LTI Holdings, based in Modesto, Calif., has two wholly owned subsidiaries, Lifetime Industries Inc. and LTI Flexible Products Inc., which have a primary business location at in Elkhart.

LTI Holdings’ suit claims Lippert was aware of the patents since at least March of this year, and that it made or sold the infringing products on at least one RV made by Forest River Inc. and on at least one other manufacturer’s RV.

Prior to filing the lawsuit, LTI contacted Lippert officials expressing its concern.
