A 2004 Pace Arrow motorhome has a major supporting role in the Universal Pictures movie “Meet the Fockers,” which debuted Thursday night (Dec. 16).
Fleetwood Enterprises Inc., Riverside, Calif., supplied three identical Pace Arrows to the producers of the film, which stars Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Steisand. One of them was sawed in half to accommodate the filming of interior scenes.
As part of the deal with Universal, Fleetwood supplied its 1,200 dealer locations with “Meet the Fockers” materials.
“The Pace Arrow’s appearance in ‘Meet The Fockers’ will introduce a whole new audience to RV travel and our line of RV products,” said Chris Braun, executive vice president of Fleetwood RV.
The front end of the Pace Arrow that was sawed in half was displayed prominently at the film’s premiere in Universal City, Calif.
The film goes into general release Wednesday (Dec. 22), and Fleetwood RV has scheduled a private screening for 500 of its employees the same day.
“Meet the Fockers” is a sequel to the popular “Meet the Parents,” which chronicled Stiller’s often pathetically funny attempts to ingratiate himself with retired CIA agent DeNiro and Blythe Danner, who play the parents of Terri Polo, Stiller’s fiancee.
“Meet the Fockers” follows DeNiro, playing Jack Byrnes, and his family from New York to Florida in a Pace Arrow to meet Stiller’s parents, the Fockers. The tightly wound Byrneses and the hyper-relaxed Fockers mix like oil and water and the efforts of Stiller and Polo to bring them together lead to humorous results.
The Pace Arrow is featured prominently in the movie and also in trailers promoting the film, including a scene in which the Fockers’ dog flushes the Byrnes’ cat down the motorhome’s toilet.
The Pace Arrow also is decked out with electronic gizmos that befit DeNiro’s character as a former spy.
