New York-based Meyer’s RV Superstores, a FreedomRoads dealership, will open a 67,000-square-foot store by the end of the month in the Buffalo, N.Y., suburb of Hamburg.
Meyer’s, with headquarters in Caledonia, N.Y., operates 10 stores in New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania that in 2004 had combined retail sales of $220 million.
The new store will include a 10,000-square-foot Camping World store along with a 15,000-square-foot showroom.
The new facility on I-90 is two miles north of a smaller outlet operated by Meyer’s that will be converted into an RV collision and reconditioning center.
“We are staffing the new store to take care of a lot of people,” said President Mark Meyer, whose father, Michael Meyer, opened the dealership in 1967 as an automobile collision shop. “Our goal is to double our business in Hamburg in the next year, and half-again the following year.”
The new Hamburg store was to open May 31 with a grand opening scheduled for June 15. Meyer said the number of employees at the Hamburg store will double to about 70 and that the number of service technicians will quadruple to 28 in order to man 30 new state-of-the-art service bays. The store’s inventory will approximately double to about $20 million.
Camping World, which has 42 retail outlets and two collision repair centers nationally, will employ about 20 people in Hamburg. The partnership with Meyers represents an extension of the Bowling Green, Ky.-based retailer’s Gold Medal Dealer program.
In a variation from most other RV dealerships hosting Camping World stores, Meyer’s service techs will perform Camping World’s aftermarket installations.
The new facility also features a 3,000-square-foot customer lounge with upscale furnishings, a computer kiosk and “Elizabeth’s,” a local specialty coffee shop.
