A New York-based RV company is looking to open its first store in Pennsylvania this month. Central Penn Business Journal reported that Meyer’s RV Superstores, which operates five stores in New York, is planning to open a location in Dauphin County.
Owner Mark Meyer said the decision to open a store in central Pennsylvania was based on market experience from past years as a sponsor of RV shows in Hershey and Harrisburg.
The store also is along a growing commercial corridor and near Camping World, a major competitor.
“I don’t mind being near other dealers,” Meyer said. “In fact, I prefer it. I believe the competition not only makes you better but also drives more people to the area to shop.”
In 2004, Meyer sold his original RV business to Camping World. As the RV industry boomed – with shipments rising from 285,749 nationwide in 2012 to 504,600 by 2016 – he reassembled his team and started Meyer’s RV Superstores.
