Monaco Coach Corp. is rolling-out this month what it believes is the industry’s first “certified pre-owned” program in an effort to attract more potential customers for its dealers.
The Coburg, Ore.-based company also launched what it believes is the industry’s first manufacturer-endorsed service contract program, “Monaco Extended Care”.
The certified pre-owned program applies to all Monaco Coach Corp. brands – Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Beaver, Safari and McKenzie. Motorhomes or towables that are up to five years old are eligible.
Units will be certified after they pass “a comprehensive inspection by an independent agency,” and the dealer pays the certification fee.
The certification fees range from $250 to $2,200 per unit and are based upon the NADA wholesale price for the unit, said April Klein, Monaco’s director of customer support services. Each certified pre-owned unit will include Monaco Extended Care-Standard coverage good for six months or 6,000 miles, covering specific systems and components.
The certification fees will be “credited back” to the dealer if the customer agrees to upgrades to a Monaco Extended Care service agreement, she added.
The certified pre-owned program should be attractive to dealers “because many customers begin their pursuit of an RV in the used market. The automotive industry has proven that certified pre-owned is a used buyer’s first choice,” Klein said. Consequently, the program will help “generate more traffic at the dealership,” she added.
Meanwhile, the new Extended Care program includes up to seven-year or 100,000-mile coverage on new units and up to five-year or 50,000-mile protection on pre-owned. Coverage options include:
• The Premier package which provides comprehensive “bumper-to-bumper” exclusionary coverage on motorhomes and travel trailers.
• A “Wrap” package providing Premier coverage on the “house-only” portion of new motorhomes and travel trailers, which is in addition to Monaco’s three-year/36,000-mile limited chassis warranty.
• The same Premier coverage offered on new motorhomes and travel trailers is also available for units up to 12 years old.
• For customers on a budget, there is the Standard package covering specific systems and components on pre-owned RVs up to 12 years old.
The deductible options offered are $50, $100 or $200 “for greater pricing flexibility,” Klein said.
Extended Care dealers will share in the underwriting profits based on the number of contracts sold.
