Monaco Coach Corp. will participate as the Official Motorhome of The Great Race 2003 – a 4,000-mile trek in vintage automobiles – that begins Saturday (June 21) at Michigan International Speedway in Livonia, Mich., and concludes July 5 at the Pepsi 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
Monaco will provide a Dynasty Class A motorhome that will serve as a traveling media center for the race through 15 Midwestern and Southern states in a loop that starts in Michigan and goes as far west as Texas before heading to Florida.
“This is a great opportunity for Monaco Coach Corp.,” said Ed Kinney, vice president of dealer marketing. “Having our recreational vehicles on display and available for middle America to see first-hand… is perfect for us.”
Race participants must drive street-legal vehicles manufactured before 1959 and travel in timed segments ranging between 170 and 480 miles each day. They will vie for a prize purse of $250,000 – $35,000 of which will be awarded to the oldest vehicle that completes the journey.
Local Monaco dealers will participate at each of 14 stops at the end of each day with model displays and walk-throughs for Great Race spectators.
