September motorhome retail sales showed little variance from last year, down less than 1 percent, according to independent market research firm Statistical Surveys Inc.
For the month, there were 5,423 units sold compared with 5,459 last year. Statistical Surveys reported a 3% drop for the third quarter with 15,678 units sold, while year-to-date retail numbers increased 8.4% with 49,710 motorhomes sold compared with 45,878 in 2003.
Class A retail sales were down 1.7% for September with 3,735 units sold compared to 3,799 last year. Third-quarter sales declined 6.4% to 10,463 while cumulative numbers through September showed a 5.1% increase to 33,186 units sold vs. 31,572 in 2003.
Sales of Class C’s increased 1.7% for September with 1,688 compared with 1,660 last year. Third-quarter and year-to-date sales were up 4.6% and 15.5% respectively, with 16,524 Class C’s sold through September compared with 14,306 last year.
Statistical Surveys noted that the state of New Hampshire was not included in September numbers and cumulative data for the states of Alabama, Indiana and Iowa contained some early registration units on the Class A side of the reports and were overstated. The firm does not collect data from Hawaii.
