Myers Industries Inc., parent of RV industry suppliers Ameri-Kart and Best Plastics, reported its first quarter sales increased 2% but its earnings declined 4%.
The Akron, Ohio-based company earned $8 million during the three months ended March 31 on sales of $165.3 million.
Were it not for acquisitions including Cassopolis, Mich.-based Best Plastics, which Myers bought last fall, its sales revenue during the first quarter of this year would have about equaled its first quarter of 2000 total.
“While we continue to work toward higher earnings this year, the current market environment is making that goal challenging,” said Stephen E. Myers, president and CEO. “We are committed to our long-term focus on niche markets that provide the company with the greatest returns and to work closer with customers for whom our products and services offer more value.”
