Conversion vehicle manufacturer Starcraft Corp. said its third joint venture Tecstar plant went into operation in Bridgewater, N.J., on Nov. 20.
The 40,000-square-foot plant will produce upfit packages for the 2001 model of the two-door Chevrolet Blazer Xtreme. The Xtreme upfit package includes exterior graphics, ground effects, special wheels and lowered suspension.
Tecstar is operating under a three-year, $25 million contract with General Motors to produce upfit packages. The contract will not expire until March 2003.
Tecstar is a 50-50 joint venture owned by Goshen, Ind.-based Starcraft and a Detroit engineering firm. During the first nine months of this year, Tecstar contributed 59% of Starcraft’s revenues, or $63 million.
Other Tecstar plants are in Grand Prairie, Tex., and Shreveport, La.
