The Du Quoin, Ill., Chamber of Commerce and the Du Quoin State Fair recently were paid the highest compliment by directors of the Newmar Kountry Club, the organization of Newmar Corp. owners, according to the DuQuoin Evening Call.
Barney and Barbara Barnett and Dave and Pam Wilson told Mayor John Rednour and Du Quoin State Fair publicist Chuck Bookstaver that the Southern Illinois fairgrounds is, in their view, the premier RV rally destination in North America. They are members of a club that will bring around 2,000 motorcoach, fifth-wheel and travel-trailer owners and their families to the town, located southeast of St. Louis, for a huge rally in June.
“Most of us travel the country in our RVs all year long,” said Barney Barnett. “When we come to Du Quoin we will spend a lot of money here.”
The Barnetts and Wilsons visited Du Quoin last week to meet with fair officials and plan for the rally. They say they have been to dozens of destination – their annual rally moves from site to site – but they believe the Du Quoin State Fair offers more amenities than any place in North America. They cited the spacious grounds, lakes, utilities, grandstand, expo hall, new horse complex and the new Du Quoin State Fair center, scheduled for completion next year.
Newmar rally attendees will spend money on gasoline and food, shop in Du Quoin stores and gift shops and for a week become residents of the community.
The Kountry Club leaders extended their appreciation to fair officials for their tremendous cooperation and said they looked forward to being in Du Quoin next June.
The rally is one of a growing number of events that fair manager John Rednour and assistant fair manager Norm Hill are booking as use of the fairgrounds grows – daily.
