Highline motorhome and fifth-wheel manufacturer Newmar Corp., of Nappanee, Ind., laid off an unspecified number of production and administrative workers Thursday (Sept. 23), according to the company.
Company spokesman Holly Nunemaker declined to say how many of Newmar’s approximately 1,000 employees were laid off.
“I can confirm that we did have a layoff due to a reduction in the business climate,” Nunemaker said. “As far as numbers go, we are not releasing any number or percentages. We are a privately held company and don’t give information along those lines.”
Nunemaker, however, characterized the layoffs as “temporary.”
“We hope that these people will be called back,” she said.
The layoffs come at a time when industry insiders have reported that RV sales generally have softened in recent weeks, and as some manufacturers have begun working their production lines on reduced hours.
