The next course in the RV Technician Distance Learning Program, RV Electrical Systems, starts Jan. 14 and runs through March 10. The course is held online through Northampton Community College in partnership with the Pennsylvania RV and Camping Association (PRVCA).
According to a press release, the course begins an in-depth look into the first of the three major systems found on most RVs. Beginning with 12-volt DC and expanding to 120-volt AC, all electrical systems and components are dissected and defined.
Though Ohm’s Law is not the main focus and basic electricity is not presented, the student will easily grasp the important electrical basics necessary to troubleshoot, install and repair any RV electrical component. Rather than theory, practical shop application is the focus. The proper use of test equipment is also outlined and perfected as students are led through each type of electrical test.
Tuition cost is $375 and employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition and textbooks upon successful completion of the course. The course also awards participants with 56 RV technician recertification credit hours.
RV Generators will begin March 18 and run through May 5, 2013. Positioned immediately after the RV Electrical Systems course while, the RV Generator course provides the students a very detailed look into the idiosyncrasies of voltage and power-producing devices. Understanding that mechanical motion (including mechanical adjustments) has a direct electrical result helps students through the nuances of this sometimes difficult-to-understand machine. Generator sizing, installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance are all studied.
Tuition cost is $325 and employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition and textbooks upon successful completion of the course. It provides 48 RV technician recertification credit hours.
