Although several dealers recently said their October sales volumes were strong, independent market research firm Statistical Surveys Inc. reports motorhome retail sales last October still were down sharply when compared with the same month a year earlier.
The Statistical Surveys data for October includes motorhome retail sales figures from 46 states because Alabama, New Hampshire and Oklahoma did not submit their data in time, said Tom Walworth, president.
Statistical Surveys also does not gather RV retail sales data from Hawaii.
However, in the 46 states reporting, Class A motorhome sales were down 18.1% in October to 2,484 units.
After the first 10 months of 2001, Class A motorhome retail sales in the 46 states were down 16.8% to 28,782 units, Statistical Surveys reports.
Meanwhile, Class C motorhome sales were down 22.4% in the 46 states in October to 844 units. After the first 10 months of 2001, Class C retail sales were down 18.6% in the 46 states to 11,852 units, according to Statistical Surveys.
