Host Industries Inc., a Bend, Ore.-based maker of truck campers and motor coaches, laid off 20 assembly line workers within the past two weeks and is operating with a “skeleton staff” in production, sales and the front office, said company President Dave Hogue.
The Bend Bulletin reported that slow sales in the RV industry, caused by the weak economy and high gas prices, forced the reduction, according to Hogue. The layoffs leave Host with 15 employees.
Host made its name in the industry as a truck camper builder but entered the motorhome market in 2006 with a 4-wheel drive Class C coach. Hogue said that at one time the company employed as many as 70 people.
