A press conference kicking off the 7th Annual Elkhart RV Open House, taking place Sept. 16-19 throughout the Elkhart area, is scheduled for Monday (Sept. 15) at 1:30 p.m.
Initiated by Elkhart-area industry leaders, the press event will be held at Forest River Inc. subsidiary Dynamax Corp.’s facility located at 745 Northland Drive, Elkhart. A meeting is set for 1:15 p.m. at a front tent marked “Registration” that will offer directions to the press conference site on the property.
Local officials from the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and Elkhart County Commissioners office, and Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore will be in attendance along with senior management from Thor Industries Inc., Forest River and Jayco Inc. Several of those participating in the press conference are officers of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), the Reston, Va.-based trade association that recently opened a branch office on the east side of Elkhart.
The press conference will provide an overview of the tremendous growth for the Open House, which started as an informal, one-manufacturer event held by Forest River during the recession that brought the company’s dealers to Elkhart to see new RV models for the upcoming year. It has since exploded into a national-scale trade show that today boasts nearly 60 RV manufacturer and supplier displays and draws more than 4,000 attendees from RV dealerships across the U.S. and Canada to Elkhart and surrounding communities.
The success of the Open House is also an indication of the current growth and expansion of the North American RV industry, 85% of which is now located in and around Elkhart County’s RV-building hub. Highlighted will be the impact this Elkhart County event has on the local commercial landscape as well as the RV industry throughout North America.
