The lawsuit filed by former Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. executives Richard E. “Dick” Parks and John R. Weiss against Fleetwood is going to arbitration.

Last Thursday (July 26), a Riverside (Calif.) County Superior Court judge agreed to Fleetwood’s request to move the case to arbitration, said Howard Golds, outside legal counsel for RV and manufactured home builder.

“It’s up to the parties to arrange arbitration,” said Golds, who did not want to speculate about when the dispute might be resolved.

Parks was the head of the Fleetwood RV Group and Weiss was the vice president of the motorhome operation, until both were fired on July 30, 2000. They claim they were dismissed without good cause and they are seeking severance pay and other benefits.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood said they were fired for “substantial” performance failures, which has been reflected in steep market share declines, particularly in the motorhome sector.

Parks and Weiss contend Fleetwood did not give then adequate warning that their jobs were in jeopardy.
