Recreational vehicle and manufactured housing supplier Patrick Industries will move its Elkhart, Ind., headquarters to the city’s downtown area, according to a report in the South Bend Tribune.
The company announced it had purchased a building in downtown Elkhart that sat vacant for two years and formerly housed Bank One Insurance.
According to Patrick, the larger facility will enable the distributor to consolidate operations and also allow for future growth.
“We had outgrown the facility we are in,” said President and CEO Paul Hassler. “We were operating out of two to three facilities at any given time.”
Patrick plans to move operations by the spring after renovating the Bank One building. About 80 workers will be relocated downtown, Hassler said.
“The move by Patrick Industries is another big step in our plans to revitalize downtown,” Elkhart Mayor David Miller said in a statement. “Patrick Industries complements the growing number of corporate headquarters choosing to make downtown their new home.”
Patrick began looking to move its corporate headquarters in April and sold its current facility a few months ago.
Hassler said the company initially considered building a new office. But when the city offered to free up parking spaces for Patrick’s employees, Hassler said, moving to the Bank One building seemed to be the most attractive option.
