Plans are moving ahead for the development of a 12-acre recreational vehicle and camping park in Oakhurst, Ca.
The project, headed by Oakhurst residents Dennis and Janell Jonathan, would add 70 RV spaces and 10 camping sites in the highly popular camping area near Yosemite National Park.
According to Dennis Jonathan, the proposal has been on the table since he first met with county officials in July of 2003 and includes allowing Jonathan and his family to own and operate the business.
During a recent Madera County Planning Commission meeting, some Oakhurst residents and business owners near the proposed site voiced concerns about noise and the possibility of increased crime.
The commission, however, granted a conditional use permit and Dennis Jonathan said he expects to receive approval from the state.
If the project is given final approval, he anticipates the first phase – consisting of 30 RV sites and the completion of the clubhouse and camping sites – could be finished by June and the final 40 RV sites would be added by the end of the year.
