Caterpillar Inc. has teamed with RV gen-set supplier Power Technology Southeast Inc. of Leesburg, Fla., to supply a full line of Caterpillar-powered generators to RV manufacturers, according to a letter Caterpillar recently sent to its power systems distributors and engine dealers.
The Power Tech CSI 7kw and CSI 8kw will be the first Caterpillar-powered units available to the RV industry, to be followed in the coming months by 10kw, 12kw and 20kw sets.
As a result, diesel-pusher motorhome buyers soon will have an opportunity to buy a coach fully powered by Caterpillar. Currently, Cummins Inc., along with its Onan power generation subsidiary, is the only company capable of giving motorhome manufacturers the option of building a coach that includes a diesel engine and generator produced by the same company.
The program with Power Tech is part of Caterpillar’s effort to increase its diesel-engine sales to the RV industry, according to the Peoria, Ill.-based company.
