The nine-day 34th Annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation and RV Show in southwest Arizona ended Sunday (Jan. 29), and looks to go down as yet another successful run for one of the nation’s largest consumer get-togethers. Although some estimates range up to 150,000 people, officials are unable to track exact attendance because there is no gate admission. According to the show’s organizers, people “come in droves,” filling more than 70 local RV parks and parking their RVs anywhere they can find an open piece of sand. The show itself occupies 20 acres and features several hundred RVs for sale by Paul Evert’s RV Country — the show’s exclusive RV dealer (five of its 10 locations are within a 2 1/2 -hour drive to Quartzsite) — as well as a 70,000-square-foot, fully carpeted tent with more than 400 exhibitors inside. The 20-acre venue is surrounded by the Bureau of Land Management’s La Posa Recreation area, where 10,000-20,000 RVs dry camp each year during the show as well as a private campground and an additional 80-acre dry campground that holds another 1,500-2,000 RVs.
