Due to severe weather last week that flooded the grounds at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind., the Midwest RV Super Show has been rescheduled for Aug. 16-19. The event, hosted by the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association-Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council (IMHA-RVIC), was originally slated to run Aug. 9-12.

Matt Rose, director of recreation vehicles for the RVIC, told RVBUSINESS.com that most of the RVs were moved in Sunday (Aug. 5) night and Monday, but that “torrential downpours” Tuesday and Wednesday prompted an emergency meeting to evaluate the situation.

“We pushed the opening from Thursday to Friday as the show’s center aisle was under water and we had standing water in the majority of the displays,” Rose said. “Then on Wednesday night, overnight rain led to an emergency meeting between the show team and all eight dealers. It was determined that the grounds would not be in any shape for a show that weekend.”

IMHA-RVIC contracted an excavator Friday morning to dig a temporary retention pond and ditches to help with drainage. A diesel pump and a Bobcat with a 30-inch auger were brought in to bore drainage holes throughout the exhibit space.

Rose noted, “The dealers pitched in with this equipment and manpower to help drain and dry the grounds. We are doing our best to dry things out and have the grounds ready to open Thursday.”

He added, “We did our best to communicate the change to show attendees as quickly as possible. Those that missed the announcement and arrived for the show this past weekend were met by show staff and most were understanding that we couldn’t help the weather.”

To get the word out, IMHA-RVIC has produced new TV and radio spots promoting the new dates. The show will feature seven area dealers and one factory direct manufacturer including: Total Value RV, Tiara RV, Indiana RV Connection, International RV, D Showalter RV, Phoenix USA, Goshen RV Supercenter and Moore Custom Trailers.
