Reid Bigland, head of Ram brand, accepts the 2019 North American Truck of the Year award for the 2019 Ram 1500

The all-new Ram 1500 has been named 2019 North American Truck of the Year by a panel of automotive experts consisting of 60 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada.

According to a press release, the winners were announced at a news conference Monday (Jan. 14) during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

“The Ram 1500 is an important product for FCA and winning this award is one of the highest honors,” said Reid Bigland, head of Ram Brand. “In what is arguably the most competitive segment in the automotive industry, for the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 to be named North American Truck of the Year is tremendous recognition of the FCA employees who design, engineer and build a pickup that truly stands out.”

Jurors cited Ram’s eTorque mild-hybrid technology, luxurious interiors and 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen among their top reasons for selecting the Ram 1500 over competing vehicles.

The Ram 1500 Ram features significant gains in fuel efficiency through an all-new eTorque mild hybrid system in both V-6 and V-8 configurations while overall weight has been reduced by 225 pounds. The frame uses advanced materials and engineering to eliminate 100 pounds while increasing stiffness and durability for 12,750 pounds of towing capability and 2,300 pounds of payload.

The new Uconnect 4C with a 12-inch touchscreen offers split-screen capability, 360-degree camera views and exclusive content from SiriusXM with 360L.

This is the 26th year of the awards. The 2013 Ram 1500 also won North American Truck of the Year honors.
