Tom Raper RVs, a staple in Richmond, Ind., for 50 years that is known throughout the Midwest, is in the process of being sold.
David Bane, who has owned Tom Raper RVs for almost 13 years, said Monday (Jan. 5) afternoon he has signed an agreement to sell the dealership to Camping World Inc., a national recreational vehicle sales and service company. (see related story)
As reported by the Paladium-Item, Camping World was founded in 1966 in Bowling Green, Ky., and the business has grown to include more than 100 “SuperCenters” nationwide. The closest Camping World location is in Greenwood, Ind.
Bane said both sides are going through the discovery process right now, but nothing has been finalized yet. If everything goes well, Bane expects the sale to close between January and March.
“They will invest in all three dealerships,” Bane said. “I think it’s going to be good for the dealership and the employees. My employees are going to have a lot of advantages that only being part of a big company offers.”
The three Tom Raper RVs locations employ about 185 people, many of whom have worked there more than 10 years. Once the sale is concluded, Bane said he will no longer be part of the business.
“I wish him the best,” said dealership founder Tom Raper, reached Monday at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “It’s his property to do with what he wants. I just hope he got a good deal and the employees will not lose their jobs. He’s got some good employees.”
Bane purchased the dealership from Raper in June 2002.
