The Recreation Dealers Exchange Co. (REDEX) LLC, the largest of two RV dealer buying groups in the U.S., distributed $170,000 in rebates among its 41 members in 2001, a spokesman for the group reports.
“If you can bring 40 or so oustanding $10-million to $50-million-a-year dealers together in a group, you can have the same buying power of dealerships and parts stores that have sales of $100 million a year and up,” said REDEX President Paul Skogebo, who also is president of the Robert Crist and Co. RV dealership in Mesa, Ariz.
Additionally, Skogebo reported that REDEX intends to cap its membership at 45 dealerships after having added 12 new members since January 2001.
Skogebo said limiting the number of members, which was anticipated when the group was formed seven years ago, will allow REDEX to focus more on establishing programs rather than recruiting.
Skogebo told REDEX members at a recent meeting that the group is finalizing a customer retention program that will encourage RV consumers to visit REDEX dealerships for parts and service when they are on the road.
REDEX has vendor agreements with more than a dozen companies to provide various levels of financing, products and services to REDEX dealers and their customers.
