The “Running With Spoons” celebrity chef event held at Elcona Country Club in Elkhart, Ind., on Sept. 8 raised over $250,000 for the Bashor Children’s Home. The total money raised is more than any event in Bashor’s 94 years of serving children.
According to a press release, 15 community leaders, including several representatives from the RV industry, competed as chefs serving samples of their homemade dishes to a sold-out crowd of 300 guests to inspire votes via donations. Jeff Rodino of Patrick Industries Inc. won the inaugural Bashor Golden Spoon Award, as the voting raised over $37,000.
Other participating chefs from the RV industry included: Coley Brady (Heartland RV LLC); Zach Eppers (Coachman RV); Jason Lippert (Lippert Components Inc.); Jeff Runels (Keystone RV Co.); and Jon Wenger (Genesis Products).
“The Bashor board of directors is grateful for the efforts of the chefs, the community’s positive response as well as the increased awareness of its mission of providing ‘Help for Today and Hope for Tomorrow’ for children,” the release stated.
This much needed support will enable Bashor to continue to respond to the increased need for and strengthening of its diverse services. Earlier this year, Bashor was able to raise $100,000 to refurbish an idled cottage on its campus and open an Emergency Shelter for homeless, abused and neglected children in our community. Bashor’s Emergency Shelter has been at its maximum occupancy since the day it opened in April 2016.
The major sponsors of the event were Thor Industries Inc., Fabric Services, Genesis Products, Transindo USA, Argo Fine Imports and the Ron & Lisa Fenech Foundation.
