Government officials in Indio, Calif., recently agreed to provide financial incentives for the development of a 25-acre RV mall along I-10, according to a spokesman for the developer, BBD LLC, an entity created by former Teton Homes Inc. owner Robert “Boots” Ingram.
The RV mall will include a 23,000-square-foot Camping World accessories store, with service bays, as its anchor, according to Brian Malloy, senior vice president of Colliers Seeley International, the real estate brokerage representing BBD.
The property, at Jackson Street and I-10, will have room for six to eight dealerships, Malloy said.
Construction is expected to begin in January and the facility should be ready to open during the fourth quarter of next year, Malloy added.
Having a Camping World store as the anchor will be attractive to the RV dealers who buy space in the mall because partnering with Camping World will, based on others’ experience, expand their bottom lines by 20% to 30% due to the added traffic brought in by the national accessories store chain, Malloy said.
Camping World has signed a 10-year lease with BBD along with four five-year extensions, he added.
Dealers interested in buying space in the mall can call Malloy at (760) 674 3505.
“We are interviewing dealers now,” Malloy said. “We want to get the right dealers with the right product mix.”
Another attraction is that Indio, located in the Coachella Valley east of Palm Springs, is one of the fastest-growing regions in Southern California. Its population is expected to double to around 600,000 people by 2010, Malloy said.
Camping World is a unit of Affinity Group Inc., as is TL Enterprises Inc., publisher of RV Business and RVBUSINESS.COM.
