The slate of entrants in RV Rescue has been narrowed to 200 semifinalists, according to organizers of the extreme makeover event being filmed live by “RVtoday” April 7-10 at The Rally in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Over 3,000 entries were received by the Nov. 15 cutoff date. Melody Rose, a South Bend, Ind., designer who will oversee the rig renovation, said that criteria during the extensive weeding-out process ranged from humorous to heartwarming.
“We’ve had people with disabilities, people caring for foster children, people traveling with a stable of pets, couples with traveling businesses,” she said. “There were also people traveling to promote causes and many other unique situations. It was very hard to come up with 200, but our challenge is just beginning.”
Since mid-December semi-finalists have been submitting more comprehensive applications, including short videos. From those responses, 10 finalists will be chosen by Jan. 20 to be interviewed by Rose and the “RVtoday ” production team. The finalist will be chosen by late February.
“With the sponsors of RV Rescue, we’re going to show RVers the makeover potential of their own RV,” said Brad Sargent, vice president of sales and marketing for title sponsor Dometic Corp. “There are millions of older RVs on the road that people have become attached to because of the freedom and security they provide. RV Rescue will give them a lot of ideas about how they can create a more comfortable RV environment that suits their tastes and lifestyle.”
Other sponsors include Camping World, Roadmaster (tow bars), Safe-T-Plus (steering controls), Hydro Life (water filters), Jensen (entertainment systems), Westland Sales (Vesta dishwasher, Splendide washer/dryer), Summit Products (body armor), Xantrex (inverters, automatic generator start) and LaSalle Bristol (Celano Grill).
Lippert Components will also contribute its metal fabrication expertise to the Rescue and Haulmark Industries will provide its premier cargo trailer as a portable warehouse and workspace.
There will be an audience area with video screens set up at The Rally to let attendees watch the RV Rescue unfold as it is filmed by the “RVtoday” TV crew. The show is scheduled to air in two segments in June.
