A 9% gain in the price of Microsoft stock on Wednesday helped the Nasdaq composite index climb to within 5 points of wiping out all of its losses for the year.

The Nasdaq gained 51 points, or 1.3%, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, OPEC’s decision on Wednesday to raise oil exports may have helped the Dow Jones Industrial average gain 63 points, or 0.6%.

OPEC agreed to produce 700,000 more barrels per day, although energy market analysts believe at least a one million barrels-a-day increase is needed to lower gas prices.

However, OPEC believes non-OPEC countries also will increase their production 200,000 to 300,000 barrels a day.
