Despite some local opposition, the Garden Grove, Calif., Planning Commission voted on Thursday (Jan. 17) to approve a 490-space, 8.5 acre RV storage lot, according to the Orange County Register.

Garden Grove is in Orange County between Anaheim and Huntington Beach.

It now appears that Trails End RV Storage will be able to develop a facility on a portion of a 23-acre stretch of Southern California Edison right-of-way that once served as a buffer between industrial and residential areas.

Residents spoke for nearly two hours during the commission meeting last week, saying they were worried about noise, traffic and what one woman described as “a sea of RV.”

The commission added several conditions suggested by residents before agreeing to allow the development. Included were larger setbacks, extending a block wall and directing lighting away from homes.

The demand for RV storage is growing as more local governments adopt ordinances prohibiting or greatly limiting the ability of RV owners to park their rigs on their driveways, in the backyards or along the street in front of their homes.
