Without a doubt, “off-road” and “off-grid” are key trends emerging from the 2022 model year RV lineup as debuted so far this fall, and both are well represented in the “2022 RVBusiness RV of the Year “ selections.
Topping off the RV of the Year list of 36 units are five finalists, ranging from a rugged adventure trailer to a Euro-style campervan loaded with lithium – not to mention a towable line with a crawl space plus a 48-foot toy hauler and a couple’s coach overflowing with function and flair.
“So, like 2021, this year’s ‘RV of the Year’ selection process deserves an asterisk because we didn’t get to see the number of units that we normally would,” said RVB Executive Editor Rick Kessler. “While we did have the advantage of reviewing a bunch of new units at the Hershey Show, the fact of the matter is that the absence of a conventional Elkhart RV Open House in late September – for the second year in a row – again hampered our selection process.”
On the other hand, he added, RVB’s staff saw dozens of new models at Hershey and at the “hybrid” Open House that followed in Northern Indiana, plus several other 2022 units outside those two fall venues.
And it’s certainly worth noting that, at a time when it was all the industry could do to keep up with consumer demand while navigating supply chain and labor constraints, some RV manufacturers and their suppliers were still able to develop new brands in authentically new segments as well as a variety of innovations, upgrades and new floorplans across the board.
In other words, life goes on for the North American RV arena in spite of ongoing challenges.
“So, based on all that, we’re proud to present our selections here for the 2022 RV of the Year,” said Kessler, noting that they’re listed in alphabetical order by manufacturer.
“The list includes a roster of five ‘RVBusiness RV of the Year’ finalists,” he added, “from which we’ll pick an overall winner that will be announced simultaneously in the November/December issue of RVBusiness and in a professionally produced video program we’ll release at noon, Monday, Nov. 15, on RVBusiness.com.”
