The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) of Canada is seeking dealers to assist with the 2019 Skills Canada National Competition slated for May 27-30 at the Halifax Exhibition Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

According to a press release, RVDA of Canada has been participating in the annual Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) since 2013 as a Try-A-Trade and Technology partner. The organization has seen booth traffic increase each year.

SCNC is the only national, multitrade and technology competition for students and apprentices in Canada. Every year, more than 550 students and apprentices from across Canada come to SCNC to compete in more than 40 skilled trade and technology contests.

“We participate to increase our exposure of the trade and try to get more people to consider it as a career,” RVDA of Canada’s Program Director Anita Lien said. “This competition moves to a different city each year and it’s a good chance for dealers in different regions to get involved. The competition is for two days, so much is happening.”

Attendees are elementary and high school students. Lien says she hopes to find eight to 10 dealers to volunteer to help with the project. RVDA of Canada’s booth will include a travel trailer and interested students will be invited to build a camping stool out of PVC pipe.

“It’s imperative that we reach this audience as young as possible while they are thinking about their future,” Lien says. “We will make our exhibit as close to the camping experience as possible. We want them to look at it as a lifestyle and as a career option.”

Dealers may contact Lien at the RVDA of Canada office at 604-718-6306.
