The Recreation Vehicle Dealer Association (RVDA) is working to provide members with more information about the need for emergency housing and other assistance for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The following is a memo updating members on relief efforts:
• RVDA continues to encourage anyone who has units available that meet the FEMA specifications to contact an RVDA dealer member in affected areas. This includes the three states in the immediate area and dealers in other states that have taken in those displaced by the hurricane. Many dealers tell RVDA that they are eager to work with their fellow members. The FEMA specifications for travel trailers, mobile homes and park models are as follows:
– Preference is for units with prices under $20,000, although we understand that FEMA may go a little above this price.
– 30-35 feet manufactured length, although we understand FEMA may accept units of other lengths.
– Must have AC/heat, furniture and warranty
– No toy haulers or fifth-wheels
– Must be brand new units under warranty.
• A list of RVDA member dealers, by state, is available at www.rvda.org. Click on FIND A DEALER.
• We understand that some lenders may have special wholesale financing programs available for units dedicated to disaster relief. Contact your floorplan source to see if they have such a program.
• How can our dealership or our customers participate in relief efforts?
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has set up a comprehensive website to register the many businesses and individuals seeking to participate in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The site is www.swern.gov
• This National Resource Register is designed to assist in the coordination efforts between the resources that are needed and the resources that may be available from the private and public sectors. If you, your dealership, or your customers have resources that may be helpful to the response agencies, you can list them in this resource registry.
