RVIA recently hired Professor Richard Curtin of the University of Michigan’s Survey Research Center to conduct an update of the landmark RV Consumer Demographic Study first published in 1980.
According to a report in RVIA Today, the association sponsored the original study, and each of the subsequent updates – done every five years– by Curtin in its ongoing effort to define changes in basic ownership characteristics. The last update was conducted in 1999.
“We are very excited to be working again with Dr. Curtin on this important project,” said Don Newton of Winnebago Industries Inc., and Chairman of RVIA’s Market Information Committee. “It’s of vital interest to every RV industry participant that we have a current profile of the consumer and to identify any emerging trends in the data.”
Members of the Market Information Committee met with Curtin and RVIA Vice President of Administration Mac Bryan in early October to review the survey document and to provide an overview of recent changes in the marketplace.
The survey field work will begin in January with preliminary results to be released at RVIA’s Committee Week meetings in June.
