Richard Coon, president of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), today (May 20) announced plans to move the association’s current Elkhart, Ind., offices to a larger location in Elkhart County.

According to a news release, the move comes as a result of the organization expanding its dealer training program as well as its team of manufacturing facility inspectors. RVIA’s new location will be 1178 Fremont Court, south of the current offices on County Road 17. The new location is being updated to fit RVIA’s expanding footprint in the area.

Derald Bontrager, president and CEO of Jayco Inc. and current RVIA chairman, issued the following statement: “Creating a visible and impactful presence for RVIA in the Elkhart marketplace has proven to be a great decision for the organization. As we continue to expand our educational programs, we have outgrown our current offices and need more space for training and interaction with our membership. RVIA explored the RV/MH Hall of Fame (HOF) as a potential location for its expanded offices, but the current layout of the facility and the need for additional space in the very near term resulted in both sides agreeing to revisit such a move in a couple of years.”

Darryl Searer, president of the RV/MH Hall of Fame, said, “We were looking forward to having RVIA’s Elkhart offices located in the RV/MH HOF. We have worked closely with their leadership on making that happen; however, the timing needed did not work for all parties. Our current floorplan doesn’t work well for RVIA to join us at this time without making changes that would impact our revenue-generating Go RVing exhibit or taking away other revenue generating space.”

He added, “It is our hope that in two years we will have the HOF’s debt completely retired. As we formulate our plans for making improvements to the facility, and for the expansion of the manufactured housing museum and Northern Indiana Event Center, we can include RVIA’s necessary space and floor plan to best meet everyone’s needs. We will continue to work with RVIA in hopes of bringing them into our space sometime in the future.”

The current plan is for RVIA to move to the new location in early August.
