President George W. Bush is expected to officially proclaim June 2005 as “Great Outdoors Month” during an upcoming event on Memorial Day weekend.
This year’s slate of activities will include a special focus on the role of recreation as a catalyst for physical activity needed to combat obesity and on the 100th anniversary of the Forest Service.
Great Outdoors Month 2005 also will celebrate a tradition of volunteerism in the outdoors through events like National Trails Day and the Take Pride in America program.
The national spotlight on recreational activity provides a platform for the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) to showcase RV travel to the American public. In conjunction with the American Recreation Coalition (ARC), the RVIA public relations team will be seeking opportunities to highlight RVing with high profile media.
Plans include trying to secure a live broadcast from a national park with a morning news show.
RVIA also will incorporate “Great Outdoors Month” messages in ongoing media pitches and Go RVing consumer outreach mechanisms such as the monthly e-newsletter and website.
