Melvin Schrock, founder of Horizon Transport Inc., passed away Wednesday (Oct. 11) after battling cancer for nearly seven years. He was 71.
Schrock founded the Wakarusa, Ind., transport company in September of 1984. His son, Marion, began working for the family business in 1986 and purchased the firm in 2003.
“While dad had great influence on how the business was run in the early years, in the latter years he let me run the show,” Marion Schrock said. “I personally learned so much from him. He taught me everything I know about this business and I attribute my success and the success of Horizon to him.”
Melvin Schrock was born in Middlebury, Ind., but spent the past 30 years in Wakarusa.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann, and sons, David of Wakarusa, Arnell of Columbus, Ohio, and Marion, also of Wakarusa.
The viewing is Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Thompson Lengager & Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee, Ind. The memorial service is Saturday at 10 a.m. at Nappanee Missionary Church.
