A security guard at North Trail RV’s collision center in Fort Myers, Fla., who discovered a fire in a parked RV likely prevented the it from spreading to more of the vehicles, a fire official said.

According to the Fort Myers News-Press, the early morning fire Wednesday (March 25) brought several fire departments to the North Trail RV Collision Center at Division Drive and Enterprise Parkway in the Billy Creek Commerce Park.

“The security guard picked up a fire extinguisher,” said Ted Ross, chief of the Tice Fire Department. “That could have made the difference between more RVs burning.”

The chief added that the situation was an active fire call with flames visible when firefighters arrived.

Ross said the state fire marshal has been called in but not because the fire was suspicious. “When it reaches a certain amount,” he said. “With RVs involved, you can imagine.”
