The demand for workers in Indiana’s Elkhart County is growing along with the economy.

The Goshen News reported that help wanted signs hanging in a window or stuck in the frozen ground in front of factories don’t seem to be drawing enough applicants for many companies and they are turning to other means. Wednesday (March 18), one of the biggest local hiring events ever will be held at Goshen’s Old Bag Factory.

“It is a significant number of companies,” said Chuck Knebl, spokesman for WorkOne, the state’s employment agency. “But I can’t really say it is the largest number ever.”

Thirty-three companies have signed up so far to attend, according to Knebl.

“It’s significant, and we are really pleased with that,” he said. “These employers have openings they need to fill.”

There is a mix of employers that will be represented. Recreational vehicle makers Heartland RV and Thor Industries Inc. will be there. Several RV supplier companies, including Patrick Industries Inc., Crane Composites and Lippert Components Inc., will also be on hand.
