Jim Sheldon, special assistant to the chairman for Monaco Coach Corp., was elected Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) chairman for fiscal year 2009 during the Sept. 13 board meeting in Charleston, S.C.
“The board has elected a proven leader to become our new chairman,” said RVIA President Richard Coon. “Jim is an active and instrumental player in numerous capacities within the RV industry and our association, and I look forward to working with him during the coming year.”
Sheldon has served on the RVIA board since 1998 and has extensive experience on the Executive Committee, having held posts as secretary from 2004–2006 and first vice chairman from 2006-2008.
In addition, he has served on numerous RVIA committees, including the Audit Committee, Nominating Committee, Public & Legislative Affairs Committee, Public Relations Committee and Strategic Planning Committee.
Sheldon has also led the Committee on Excellence since it was originally formed, serving as chairman from 1996–2006 and as co-chair with Marty Shea, owner of Madison RV, Huntsville, Ala., since 2006.
He began his career in the RV industry with Fleetwood Enterprises Inc., Riverside, Calif., in 1971 and has been special assistant to the chairman for Coburg, Ore.-based Monaco since 1999.
The RVIA board also named: First Vice Chairman Gregg Fore, Dicor Corp., Elkhart, Ind.; Second Vice Chairman Doug Gaeddert, general manager, Forest River Inc., Elkhart; Treasurer Don Walter, president and CEO, Starcraft RV Inc., Topeka, Ind.; and Secretary Paul Eskritt, president-RV Group, Fleetwood.
All officers begin their one-year terms on Oct. 1 and are joined by Chairman Ex Officio Carl Pfalzgraf, executive vice president of Atwood Mobile Products, Elkhart, and Coon on the Executive Committee.
