Shelly Shewchuk of Recreation World RVs in Thunder Bay, Ontario, was presented with the 2003 Canadian RV Dealer of the Year Award at the Canadian RV and Camping Convention last week in Calgary, Alberta.
Shewchuk was presented with the 14th annual Walter Paseska Memorial Award by the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) of Canada in conjunction with RV Lifestyle Magazine and Dealer News.
The award was named for the late Walt Paseska, founder of Walt’s Trailer Sales in Headingley, Manitoba, for his years of commitment and dedication to the RV industry.
“It is such an honor to be recognized by my peers in this manner,” Shewchuk said. “All of the nominees have made immeasurable contributions to our industry and I am very proud to be included in such a group.
“We have a very strong industry and I look forward to participating in its continued growth.”
The other nominees for this year’s award were: Jack Bell of Chemo RV Sales & Service Ltd. in Williams Lake, British Columbia; Kim Brown of Traveland Leisure Centre, Regina, Saskatchewan; Brad Campkin of Campkin’s Camping Centre, Myrtle, Ontario; and Don Ferguson of Ferguson RV World, St. Thomas, Ontario; Ron Hall of Eldorado RV Sales, Lethbridge, Alberta; Wayne Hambly, PEI Home & RV Centre, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Jim Saltys, RV Lifestyles Ltd., Calgary, Alberta.
Shewchuk has been active in the RV industry since 1977, owned a dealership since 1988 and has been a Circle of Excellence dealer for seven consecutive years.
She has served as president of the Ontario RVDA and was the Ontario Dealer of the Year in 2001. She currently serves on the RVDA of Canada board and on numerous committees. In her home community, Shewchuk donates her time to the local education association, chamber of commerce and business association.
The award is given to recognize dedication to the RVDA on the provincial and national level, contributions to the local community, reputation for integrity and credibility, both professionally and personally, long-term dedication to the RV industry and promotion of the RV lifestyle.
