Spring is still five days away and six governors have already proclaimed June 2018 as Great Outdoors Month.

The American Recreation Coalition (ARC) reported in a release that governors Bill Walker (Alaska), Kim Reynolds (Iowa), Rick Snyder (Michigan), Tom Wolf (Pennsylvania), Bill Haslam (Tennessee) and Gary Herbert (Utah) have issued proclamations recognizing the important economic and healthful benefits of outdoor recreation and urging their residents to enjoy time in the Great Outdoors. Gov. Haslam was the first governor to proclaim Great Outdoors Month in 2018.

Many of the proclamations specifically applaud cornerstone Great Outdoors Month events like Kids to Parks Day, American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day, National Fishing & Boating Week, National Get Outdoors Day and the Great American Campout. They also highlight state efforts to introduce people to healthy, active fun outdoors close to home.

ARC is expecting the remaining governors and the president to join in this celebration in the coming weeks and months. Visit www.greatoutdoorsmonth.org/proclamations to view the 2018 proclamations
