Slideout systems supplier Actuant Corp. believes it turned in a “satisfactory” financial performance for the March-through-May period despite a decline in sales to RV manufacturers during the period.
Actuant, which makes Power Gear and Dewald slideout systems in Mishawaka, Ind., reports its Engineered Solutions division sales revenue declined by 5% during the three months ended May 31 because of lower demand from RV makers.
Actuant was not alone because Winnebago Industries Inc., last week, also reported lower sales and earnings for the March-through-May period, as a result of motorhome dealers becoming very reluctant to order new product during the weeks prior to the outbreak of war in Iraq, in mid-March.
Winnebago Chairman Bruce Hertzke noted, however, that he believes dealer orders are picking up now that the war is essentially over and model year 2003 is drawing to a close. Hertzke believes RV dealers are in a good position to order 2004 units as they become available.
