Attendance at the recently completed consumer RV show in South Bend, Ind., was more than double that of a year ago, according to the South Bend Tribune.

Around 5,000 people attended this year’s Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council (RVIC) sponsored show, which ran from last Thursday (Jan. 10) through Sunday (Jan. 13). That compares with a turnout of 2,400 people during the 2001 version of the event, according to Mike Chesser, show manager.

The attendance on Saturday (Jan. 12) was over 2,400 people, Chesser added.

However, it is not an apples-to-apples comparison between the 2001 and 2002 shows. Last year’s show took place on the University of Notre Dame campus during April, while this year’s show was staged in the Century Center in downtown South Bend in January.

Because of the success of this year’s show, Chesser said the 2003 show will be staged in the Century Center early next year.

Eleven dealers exhibited at this year’s South Bend winter retail show and they were happy with their sales volume, Chesser told the Tribune.
