A veteran Columbia, S.C., realtor recently made a career move into the RV campground business with the development of the Riverbottom Farms RV Resort near the village of Swansea.

Bob Capes recently sold the four-location Columbia-based Century 21 franchise that bears his name to one of his partners so he could focus on the 46 acre campground development along the Edisto River.

Capes, 67, said the facility currently is open for business, although its official grand opening will be on Jan. 1.

Riverbottom Farms is about 25 miles south of Columbia and it has 60 spaces for RVs of all sizes with “full hookups,” Capes said. It also has five small lakes that will be stocked with bass and nature trails.

Guests at the campground will include South Carolina residents looking for “a nice weekend in the country” along with retirees from the area. People with seasonal employment in the Columbia area also, most likely, will rent spaces at the facility.

One of Capes’ partners, Butch Krell, got him interested in the RV lifestyle and Krell will live at Riverbottom Farms.

The facility also includes two Stewart Lodges park models that are available for rent.
