George Sztykiel, 71, the founder, chairman and CEO of Class A motorhome chassis supplier firm Spartan Motors Inc., will retire next year, he announced today (Jan. 9).
The Spartan Board of Directors will recommend a successor to Sztykiel, who will not seek re-election to his board seat during 2002.
The board also will undertake the development of a long-range operating plan that will include growth strategies, he added.
Sztykiel and three colleagues formed Spartan in a garage in Charlotte, Mich., during 1976 to custom build fire truck chassis. The company diversified into diesel engine Class A motorhome chassis in 1986.
John Sztykiel, George Sztykiel’s son, currently is Spartan’s president and COO.
