Despite lower motorhome chassis sales during the second quarter, Spartan Motors Inc. reported its earnings increased 1% to $1.01 million.

Meanwhile, the chassis supplier’s sales revenue declined 3% during the three months ended June 30 to $73.2 million.

“While our sales are not where we would like them to be, Spartan Motors was able to post slightly better earnings due to our focus on manufacturing efficiency and continuous improvement,” said John Sztykiel, president and COO.

“Softness in the RV market is an opportunity to pick up market share,” Sztykiel added. “Spartan has three new chassis models coming in the second half of 2000 that will fill consumer demand for cost-effective, entry-level diesel pusher motorhomes.”

For the first half of this year, Spartan reports its earnings are up 22% to $2.98 million and its sales are up 5% to $157.9 million.
