Utilimaster Corp. is settled into its new campus in Bristol, Ind., and it’s gearing up as it approaches its busier season by hiring 85 new workers.

“For our business we normally slow down in the fourth quarter and start picking up now right in the middle of the first quarter,” said John Forbes, Utilimaster president, noting the hiring was a normal part of its seasonal cycle.

As reported by the South Bend Tribune, the company currently employs about 550 to 600 in Bristol, and 600 to 800 across Indiana, Forbes said.

Utilimaster, which is part of Spartan Motors Inc. of Charlotte, Mich., started moving from nearby Wakarusa to the 425,000-square-foot factory in Bristol in 2012 mostly to improve its production efficiency, estimated to be as high as $4 million per year.

Its old Wakarusa campus, since purchased by Forest River Inc., utilized 16 different buildings that sit on 91 acres along Indiana 19. Utilimaster indicated it sometimes had to move a vehicle a couple of miles from building to building.
