Sportscoach, a subsidiary of Elkhart, Ind.-based Coachmen Industries Inc., reported record sales and improved market share during the past year.
The Class A diesel motorhome builder said retail market share grew 30% and unit sales were up 19.4% in 2005, according to data from Grand Rapids, Mich.-based marketing firm Statistical Surveys Inc.
“All of this occurred when diesel sales for the industry were down 7.7% for 2005,” said Mike Scheetz, vice president of the Middlebury, Ind., division.
Scheetz attributed the gains to innovative product design. “For the past couple of years, we have implemented very specific plans to boost diesel motorhome sales,” he said. “This plan focused on every facet of our operation, from the quality of our coaches to the boldness of our design. We also enhanced our dealer network and the service provided to customers.”
Scheetz noted the new customized “flame” paint option introduced on the Elite coach and a “true” flat-floor bedroom available on all Sportscoach offerings.
“Diesel products are the sole focus for Sportscoach,” Scheetz said. “They are longer lasting, offer more features, lots of living space and have more power.”
Sportscoach manufactures and markets Class A diesel-powered motorhomes under the names Elite, Encore, Cross Country SE and Cross Country.
