Year-over-year motorhome registrations dropped 14.9% in April while sales were up 1.7% for the first four months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Thor Industries Inc. ranked as the motorhome sales leader year-to-date with a 20.5% market share, just edging out Winnebago Industries Inc., which notched a 20.3% share. Forest River Inc. subsidiary Coachmen RV and Fleetwood RV Inc. shared the No. 3 position with an 11.6% share while Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. held an 11.5% share.

In the Class A category, registrations in April declined 5.3% compared with 2011 as year-to-date sales rose 1.2%. Winnebago and Tiffin shared the No. 1 spot for the four months, posting a 21.2% market share, while Thor was No. 3 with a 16.8% share.

Class C sales fell 23.1% in April, but were up 2.4% for the four months. Thor led the category through April with a 25% market share, followed by Winnebago (19.3%) and Coachmen (18.5%).

Rental registrations, which were primarily Class C sales, fell 50% in April.
