Year-over-year Canadian towable sales declined 15.5% in July and 14.8% for the first seven months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector fell 13.3% in July and 12.1% year-to-date.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales tumbled 25% for the month and 25.4% through July.

• Folding camping trailer registrations were down 7.6% in July and showed a 12.4% decline year-to-date.

• Park model RVs fell 76% in July on low volume but 63.6% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through July with a 56.1% market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. which held a 34.1% share and Grand Design RV Co. (2.1%). SSI noted that towable sales by Jayco Inc. were included in totals for Thor, which acquired the company on July 1.

Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the seven months, posting a 57.3% market share, followed by Forest River (33.3%) and Gulf Stream Coach Inc. (2.4%). Thor was No. 1 in Canadian fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 58.3% market share, followed by Forest River (29.8%) and Grand Design (7.3%).

Forest River led year-to-date Canadian folding camping trailer sales with a 64.2% market share while Thor posted a 27.9% share. Woodland Park Inc. led the park model segment through July with a 37.5% market share while Forest River was No. 2 with a 21.9% share followed by Cavco Industries Inc. (12.5%).
